Hero’s Tale returns!

Well, I never intended to take this long off. I knew I had a lot of overtime work coming up back in February, thus why I mentioned that it would be longer the next post. It’s frustrating because I’m letting my readers down, as well as myself. Not to mention this has happened way too often for my taste. But what’s done is done. Time to move forward.

So, that being said, I will be posting the next part On Monday, July 1. But, voting will be going through most of July. Why? I am participating in Camp NaNoWriMo during July to get a start on the next draft of a novel I’m working on.

On August 1, I will be closing the voting. I would like to have the next part posted on the first Monday of August. I am working on winding the story of Bardulf down. My plans are to finish the story in August and September.

Again, I’m sorry that it’s been so long. Unfortunately, life takes over sometimes. Thanks for sticking around with me. I appreciate it.

VYA Hiatus

So, this is the last thing I really wanted to do, but I need to. Part 8 of my Hero’s Tale VYA will be going up in the next day or so, and then I am putting the VYA on hiatus for a couple of weeks.

The reasons are multiple, and I explained them in my previous post. I need to feel comfortable focusing on non-writing things for a while. It has been hard enough getting work done related to my family and home through these last 2 months. Getting writing in has been even harder.

That being said, I will be writing and working on this blog behind the scenes. When I return, it will be with Part 9. I might have a few non VYA related posts going as well. There are a number in the queue that I haven’t been able to finish up yet.

I haven’t been blogging as much in general because of a block in my mind. After I finished #ROW80, I began thinking about how to work my blog. I want to have this site focused on my Hero’s Tale stories. That leaves a lot of stuff left out, though. And I believe that material would be better suited to an author blog. That is why I purchased BrianTRonk.com. But, you can see that I haven’t done anything with it yet. I have been researching how to host multiple WordPress blogs with one install, and I believe I have it all figured out. In the near future, I’m going to take the site down to get everything going. Here’s hoping that I don’t completely break it.

I also want to look at a redesign of the blog. I’ve only begun thinking about this, so that is further down the line.

As I have said, I am not abandoning the story. I’ve become invested in the story, and I want to know how it turns out. Bardulf’s Tale is just starting to get interesting. I will see you soon.

Life & Writing

I wanted to do a quick update. Life has been really busy the last month. My family moved to a new house in a new city a month ago. Toss into that helping care for my wife’s grandmother and cleaning her house (the one we moved into) so we can fit our stuff as well. Because of that, I’ve had a lot of traveling for work, as well as packing and unpacking.

Moving into a new place has really thrown off my routine. It’s something I am re-learning. New place, a new person in the house and many more distractions make for a great challenge.

I really have had too many of these types of posts. I am not proud of that. But as writing is not something I do full-time, I have to make time for it. And there are times when other things need to take precedence.

All that being said, I am working on some writing tonight after I cool off a little. This heat wave has hit hard, and we’ve got no AC anymore. Something to get used to, I guess.

The Tale is not done. In fact, it is just getting good.

VYA Update

Sorry it’s taking a little while. The next part is really close to being done. I have a lot of things going on besides the writing that has eaten into my writing time. In general, expect the next few parts to take a week or so to get ready. Sometimes life just doesn’t cooperate the way you’d like. Oh, and the things keeping me from writing are good. No worries.

ROW80 3/21 Final Check-in

So, as Round 1 of ROW80 has finished, I thought I’d look at my goals and where I’m at overall. Let’s start with the goals for this round.

ROW80

My Vote Your Own Adventure (VYOA) is in the works, and I have the first draft of the first section done. My goal for Round 1 – 2012 is to get this thing going. I want to have a new part to the story every week. At this time I’m not sure which day I will post stories, but I’m leaning towards posting on Monday and letting voting go through Fri, leaving me Sat and Sun to get the next one written. I’ll try that for a bit and see how it goes. Potentially, that could be around 10 weeks of story.

My VYA is going ok. I really didn’t realize how hard it would be. Thus, there hasn’t been an update in the last three weeks. The next is in revisions now. It will post it soon.

I also want to work on the serial story that I have. I am hoping that the next draft will be the last and then I can begin posting them. By the end of this round of ROW80, I want to have 5 chapters done, and the first one posted.

Fail. I haven’t touched this. Mainly because the VYA more intensive than I realized.

As far as blogging goes, I have a review in the pipeline, and some thoughts on technology. I also have one that talks about Hero’s Tale as a whole, and what it is. I want to have that post up before the VYOA goes up to help explain what is going on. I also want to get those other two out in February and March. I have another idea about what writers can learn from a game I’m playing, but I don’t want to say more about that yet.

Well, I got one blog post in there. There are another 2 that are waiting for some revisions and rewrites. I would like to get them posted soon.

I don’t do much on Twitter, Facebook and blogging in general. Mainly because I don’t have tons of time to do so. I understand that, as a writer, I need to interact with my audience and peers. So, I plan on being more active. Although, I expect this one will be hard to succeed at.

I knew this would be a hard one. I don’t have time during the day to interact much. That’s for the day job. When I’m at home I don’t pay attention to Twitter very much. I guess, for now, I do what I can.

Personal

Have more consistent quiet times. I feel that I am a bit of an oxymoron of a Christian in not taking time to spend time with God. How can I be a Christian and follow God if I am not spending time with him? It’d be like me calling myself a husband or father and never spending time with my wife or kids.

I’d love to say that I’ve managed to turn this one around, but I’d be lying. Change takes time.

Look into a domain name that is separate from my Hero’s Tale project for me as a writer.

Checkmark on this one. Granted, I just did it today. Now to figure out what I’m putting up.

Get a new picture up for Facebook, Twitter and my blog. The one there is a few years old, and after I shaved my goatee off and while I was still wearing contacts. I’ve got a beard now, and I’m wearing glasses. My picture should show a me now, not a few years ago.

Nope. Still the same goofy mug.

Go running more often, because I like running and I miss that feeling.

The weather is finally to a point where I can start running again. Plus, I’m going to start biking to work again once it is a bit brighter in the morning.

As for Round 2, I’m not going to take part this time. Why? As I have a new domain for me as an author, I want to use this new domain for my writing/personal blog. Heros-Tale.com should be for my Hero’s Tale project. So, I need to take some time to figure out what I’m doing, and how to get it all set up. So to all you ROWers, farewell for now. This has been a lot of fun, and I intend to return.
