Hero’s Tale VYA – Part 13 Results

Thanks again everyone! Again, sorry about it being so late. So, how did the voting turn out?

A) Yes. Go back to the cave and start planning. – 3 Votes
B) No. It is a good time to go scout the enemy in the darkness. – 0 Votes

I won’t say I’m surprised. I suspected that was the direction it would go. Although, as the writer, I won’t say I don’t usually have a direction I’d like to go, which happened to be B this time. Oh well.

I’m going to give myself an extra week this time. For two reasons, actually. The first is that I’m writing a short story now. It’s for something called TaleJam. The idea being that we take an idea, and write 2,000 to 8,000 words. This first inaugural one is Civil War Werewolf.

The other reason is that I have a project for work that I want to be able to work on a few nights as well.

So, on to war planning. After all, like Matt mentioned, there are only a few days before the full moon.

It’s a new year, and time for the next part of the story. I hope I have answered your questions as we enter the next stage of the story. If you want to read previous entries, go to Vote Your Adventure up top for the list. I am going to have voting go until Friday, January 11, 2012.

If you are interested, I’ve also posted two-year in reviews. A Personal one, and a Writing one. Now, onto the story. Enjoy!

“Your father?” Bardulf couldn’t hide his surprise. Burnum simply nodded. Bardulf looked over the chief, who studied Bardulf. He guessed that the chief was a few years younger than himself, since the chief’s dark beard had only some gray streaks as opposed to his own that was gray streaked with brown. The chief was obviously older, but they were not as far apart in age as Bardulf expected.

The chief frowned and began speaking with Burnum. They went back and forth. Burnum pointed to Bardulf as they spoke. The chief finally nodded, but the frown remained. He began speaking to Bardulf, his voice low and rough, while Burnum translated.

Thanks for the comments. And yes, I forgot to close them on Fri. The week was suddenly over before I knew it. I was hoping to have the next part up on Monday or Tuesday, but I fear I’m running late. Not to mention that even with only two comments, you both gave me some great questions!

Thanks again. All the comments and participation is what makes this so much fun.

Hero’s Tale VYA – Part 12 Reminder

I think I broke all of you readers with my request in Part 12. Either that or you all wanted to wait while I was working on NaNoWriMo. (FYI, it went well. Another victory!)

Sorry to keep all of you waiting, but I’m back and ready to continue the story. I want to see if all of you have some ideas for me first. Are there things you want to know right away? Now that Bardulf is in the right area with people who know something, it’s a great time to ask questions!

Comments will be open until December 7, 2012. Thanks everyone!

Hero’s Tale VYA – Part 12

It’s the eve of NaNoWriMo. What was I thinking? That I couldn’t quite leave the story where it was. As usual, if you want to catch up, go check out the Vote Your Adventure link above. Voting ends at the end of November. I’m doing it a bit different this time. I’ll explain after the story.

The ridges of the mountains were covered in evergreen trees. Snow still blanketed the forest floor, but was beginning to melt. Burnum mentioned that it could be around for another month.

Travel was easy. For the first two days, they traveled as they had for the last few days. On the third day, Burnum asked them to walk in a single line. He lead the way, and Bardulf followed him. “Walk in my footprints,” he said to Bardulf. “We hide how many we are.” It took a little while to learn, but Bardulf got the hang of it. Burnum led them through the trees, staying away from large clearings where possible. Late in the afternoon, they had their first encounter.
