ROW80 3/11 Check-in

Blah to the time change for daylight savings. Anyone else with me?

As for writing, it’s been non-existent. Well, not entirely true. I did write the minutes for my church on Friday. Otherwise, I’ve been stuck in the story. I think it’s finally unstuck, though.

My wife has also been out-of-town since Friday, so I’ve been with our kids. Wow, I wish I could bottle their energy! I’ve been worn out from doing everything around the house, and not writing from that, either. People who say stay at home moms don’t have a job need to spend time with 3 energetic kids for a long weekend. (And no, I’m not one of those. I only respect my wife even more from this!)

I’m afraid I’m not getting anything else written tonight, but I’m satisfied that my block is broken. Maybe my kids will give me a chance to write tomorrow? I really want to finish this and get it to some beta readers. Two weeks for not posting on a VYA is too long (for me as the author).

  1. Right with you on daylight savings – took me two hours to feel the disappointment of realizing I was already behind for the day. Sounds like you’ve been having a fun week. Good thing the blockage is gone – once your time frees back up you should be ready to pour the words out. By the way, I always do housework and all the laundry, which is all time spent plotting in my head. Doesn’t take much to fold towels or clothes or vacuum, which means plenty of free mental cycles to run characters along their paths, wander the next scene or whatever lies ahead in the story. Sometimes your kids can be great idea generators as well – pose your story problem to them, make it a game, you’ll be surprised what fun little ideas they can spring out of their fresh minds.

Have a great week, Brian 🙂

    • I will definitely be able to write once things free up a bit more.

I usually end up watching a movie or tv while I’m cleaning and folding, but that might be a good idea. I used to do that more at work when I had menial tasks to do.

And kids are great for ideas! I want to work with my oldest on a story, and wanted an idea. Immediately, it was Dinosaurs vs Dragons. I’ll help him with his, but I have an idea from that now as well.
